An immersion heater is a device that is used to heat water. In terms of traditional central heating systems, the immersion heater is contained separately to the boiler and is used to heat water separately from the boiler of the central heating system. One advantage this older system has over a newer combi-boiler is that if the central heating system break downs the home owner will still be able to get hot water.
