Tropical home decor ideas

Many of us may not be able to go on holiday this year, but it doesn’t mean we can’t bring the holiday vibes to our homes. One of the hottest trends for summer 2021 is paradise chic. A contemporary take on tropical home décor, this trend gives a fun but sophisticated look to any room. The trends takes on two persona’s; bold, bright and full on Club Tropicana, or a more relaxed and chilled rainforest get away vibe. Which tropical home decor trend is the one for you? Check out our suggestions below for a few easy swaps to really whisk you away and cheer up a room this summer.

Tropical Printed wallpaper

Despite a slight dip in popularity recently, eye catching feature walls with daring prints are making a bit of a comeback. They are a fantastic way to add a touch of drama to a room and certainly make a statement. These statement wallpapers might seem slightly intimidating or hard to style but can be very versatile. Keep it subtle or go for a full on themed room, the choice is yours. You can even match your radiator, or create a colour clash on the same wall. For a more tropical vibe, large leaf prints or flowers would be the perfect selection. You’ll be able to find patterns for whatever colour palette you’re after, whether more muted or bright. If you are looking for a more Club Tropicana feel, try focusing on the yellows, greens and pinks. Pair these colours with beech woods and matching accessories for the ultimate tropical beach resort feel. You can get a tropical paradise look with widely available high quality tropical wallpapers, wall stickers and wall decals.

Tropical pops of colour

Not all room décor choices need to be as obvious as leaf prints or coconut shells. Just adding a pop of colour in your accessories can really add that paradise vibe. Whether you’re looking for classy greens and beiges or a more vintage 50’s Miami vibe, adding small accessories can actually brighten up the mood. Accessories like cushions, art prints and candles are super versatile in that they can easily be swapped out in different seasons. They’re also a great way to add those small pops of colour to a more neutral room. When it’s raining in October, replace the pineapple candle holder for a pumpkin or something. Your décor doesn’t need to be stagnant, keep it changing and up to date with your style and how you feel. Column Rads has a huge choice of coloured radiators that are perfect if you’re looking to add a statement piece. You can also mix and match your radiator accessories to your style.

Green fingers

A really simple way of brightening up a space and making it relaxing is by adding plants. Whether big or small, they can bring the outside in and make it feel much more inviting. For a more tropical look, indoor plants with large green leaves like banana plants, spider plant or ferns work well. The biggest plant trend continues to be the Monstera Deliciosa. A big statement plant that requires little watering and maintenance is great for those who struggle to look after plants. Some small table top succulents can also add greenery and give the flora and fauna look which is very popular this summer. Using macramé plant hangers is a great way to add some dimension to your plant arrangements. Some tropical plants often need less looking after too which is a great bonus. However, some plants can be toxic to household pets so we advise doing your research before you make a purchase. As with any themed décor, you can commit to the concept as much as you feel comfortable with. Whether it is a whole overhaul of tropical prints and fruity accessories for a full tropical island look or something more minimalist like a new plant or a couple of pops of colour with your home accessories. Tropical decor works well for a living room, dining room, or home office. For a bathroom, you could even add some tropical bathroom decor such as a Hawaiian, Flamingo or palm tree styled shower curtain to really stand out.
